Facing the Giants

Sometimes, when we feel spiritually drained and physically exhausted, we must take time out to recharge our spirits and refill our reservoirs.

Over the weekend, I became physically exhausted and my body cried out to me, “Rest! Recharge! Rejuvenate!”

But, I didn’t listen.. Oh, no… not right away.

Several hours passed and I continued to work with strong determination to do the tasks at hand. I wanted to do what I wanted to do at that particular time. Suddenly and inexplicably, I was stricken with a wave of nausea. My body quaked with violent abdominal cramping and I was rendered totally useless!

I continued to work through the pain, however… ‘trudge on’ was my thought. Then, when the physical symptoms escalated to the point where I was forced to get up and seek assistance from my husband.

Then, I found myself crying out, “Oh, God, help me, please!”

After taking medication and more pleas for God’s help, I found myself laying flat on my back in bed.

I had been emotionally stressed out during the week… my brother-in-law had major surgery this week, my son was dealing with some issues, my dog was sick…. everyday stress wore me down physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

I watched a movie that came through Netflix that day. Facing the Giants was exactly what I needed and exactly what helped to refuel my near empty spiritual reserve.

Facing the Giants

This is a movie about a young man – a husband, high school football coach, friend.

He found himself facing getting fired from his coaching job because his team had lost 6 consecutive seasons. He and his wife were unable to conceive a child, something that they both so desperately wanted. His car died several times. He lost the confidence of his young football team and their fathers.

One night, after returning home from an exceptionally difficult day, he cried. He found himself at the end of his rope. He prayed out to God for help.

Renewing his faith, and turning his will and life over to God, he approached his life with renewed conviction, determination, and complete faith in God.

Then, the miracles happened!!

The team began to pray before each game… thanking the One for the victories as well as the losses. Each young player began to believe in himself through faith in God. The performances by these young actors is chilling; Beautifully directed, convincing, and winning.

He and his wife ultimately conceive a child when they had been told that they would never have a baby together!

The team began to win games and their faith took them to the State Championship against the Giants, a team stronger, faster, and three times their size!

Grant Taylor: I want God to bless this team so much people will talk about what He did. But it means we gotta give Him our best in every area. And if we win, we praise Him. And if we lose, we praise Him. Either way we honor Him with our actions and our attitudes. So I’m askin’ you… What are you living for? I resolve to give God everything I’ve got, then I’ll leave the results up to Him. I want to know if you’ll join me. “

So many wonderful, inspirational, and uplifting events completed the movie. By the end, I was filled up spiritually, emotionally, and physically! I laughed, I cried, I rejoiced! I applauded this movie!

When you think you can’t, God says, “Yes, you can!”

When illness strikes, take the time to reflect on what is truly important in your life. Know your purpose, live life each and everyday with gratitude, determination, faith, and unconditional love.

Watching uplifting movies that have a positive influence will enhance the quality of your life. I highly recommend watching Facing the Giants.
